What is an Apprentice Plumber?
An apprentice plumber is an individual who is in the early stages of their plumbing career, working under the supervision of a licensed or master plumber to gain hands-on experience and technical knowledge.
Apprentice plumbers typically participate in a formal training program, including on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Their responsibilities often include:
- Assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems
- Carrying tools and materials for experienced plumbers
- Learning to read blueprints and plumbing codes
- Measuring, cutting, and assembling pipes
- Troubleshooting basic plumbing issues
Apprenticeship programs usually last 2 to 5 years, after which the apprentice can take a licensing exam to become a journeyman plumber.
